Canan Media Uganda at a Glance

Canan Media Uganda knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. Back in 2018, our Non-Profit Organization realized that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we ultimately decided to launch Canan Media Uganda. To rebuild lost Hope.

OUR BACKGROUND

My Story

Hello, my name is Canan Kayongo I am the founder of Canan Media Uganda from Kampala Uganda. I am a young adult who comes from a humble background. Both my parents are still alive and I
thank God for that.
I grew up with three siblings who I always wanted to make happy and see them
smile no matter how hard the situation was at the moment. Being the second last born my
mom never wanted me to leave home and was always keeping an eye on me even
when I was playing with my friends. Despite the fact that I was young, I took the responsibility over my sisters, because my parents did not have good paying jobs
which forced me to look for food sometimes for my sisters. I would look for picking
scrap metal and other things that I could salvage and sell for food.
At the age of eleven {11} years I dedicated my life to Christ and joined a local church
where I served God with all my heart in the Sunday School as a dancer. I grew up in
this church. In 2012 I joined the church media team serving as the Assistant
Videography Director working on the church projectors and sound which I did for
four years until I finished high school and was assigned to head the Outdoor Sermon
Media Team. This is when I started working out in the community and realized that
there was a need for our church to reach the community at large. I also saw that
unemployment in the youth was rampant.
I undertook computer science in college hoping that I could be of help to others
someday. However in 2018 I realized that my desires were impossible because of my
limited funds.
I was attending the Word of Life Community Church where I had the opportunity to
serve with “Heart for African People“. At the same time I started serving in church as
a Media person helping as a sound guy. I was able to learn different things from the
people I met doing this work. This helped me develop skills which I was able to share
with my fellow youth, who like me, could not afford University. I was able to teach
basic media: like video editing, videography, photography and sound mixing. The
first student to get placed from that effort now works as a News Editor for a
television company in Rwanda. The glory belongs to Almighty God!
My vision for helping disadvantaged youth remains. I have a great passion to see
unemployment decrease in my community through the efforts of the church. I have
been able to secure some equipment to set up a Technical Media Training center to
help move forward the vision of transforming the community. The goal is to set up a
technical training center to be able to see a transformation in the community led by
the Church and to help create a community where everyone has jobs.
Can you help me change a life today and give hope to the hopeless?
